If your Portege R100 computer has been attacked by a virus, or worse still; is infected with a virus which you cannot remove, the best course of action is often to wipe your current installation and re-install from your Portege R100 Recovery CDs or Portege R100 Recovery Partition, and then install quality anti virus - anti spyware programs.

Please note; some viruses can exist in the Recovery Partition or can create their own partition.

If your Portege R100 PC is running slowly, it could be due to a virus or Viruses. The computer could also be infected with spyware, malware or adware. If this is the case; repairing the current Windows XP installation will not help because the repair process will not remove infections. Re-installing Windows will wipe the hard drive and should also remove - delete viruses, malware, spyware or Adware. It will also remove programs & utilities which may no longer be required.

Reinstalling almost always allows the computer to "run faster" and the user can re-install the programs that they actually want & use.

If your computer has a faulty hard disk drive (eg; if the hard drive cannot be "seen" by the computer, if it has bad sectors, bad blocks or is making a clicking or loud whirling noise), the best course of action is usually to completely replace the hard drive and restore Windows XP with the original software from your Toshiba Portege R100 Recovery CD.

This process will involve replacing the hard drive and then placing your Portege R100 Recovery CDs in the CD ROM or DVD ROM drive and re-booting the system. The computer should then boot from the Toshiba Recovery CDs and this will then return the computer to its original state (as new).

Our Portege R100 Re-Image CDs are bootable and will work even if the Portege R100 Hard Drive Based Recovery option fails.

The Portege R100 Re-Image CDs simply reinstalls the original image of the Portege R100 Hard Drive Recovery facility (from CDs) and therefore allows you to fully reinstall your Portege R100 to its original factory settings (even if you have fitted a new hard disk drive).

Our Portege R100 Re-Image CDs will even work if you have a virus in the Portege R100 Recovery partition, because it overwrites the partition, thus killing the virus.

Insert Re-Image CD 1 and restart the R100 notebook.

Hold down the C key and the CD will load to the screen above.

Press 1 to begin the Recovery - Reimage Process.

You will be warned that all data will be lost.

Press 1 to continue or 2 to Cancel.

The image will now be copied to your Hard disk Drive.

Remove CD1, insert CD2 when prompted and press Enter.

The process takes approximately 20 minutes. Once complete you will be asked to remove the CD.

Press CTRL, ALT and DEL to restart.

Note: the system uses the FAT 32 file system. An NTFS converter shortcut can be found on the Desktop.

Selecting the above facility (Option 2) launches Norton Ghost.

This can be used as the standard Ghost program and allows you to browse a CD for an image which you may have created earlier.

Please note; this service requires the original Portege Windows license (product key) and DOES NOT include a Windows Installation CD (because the correct - Toshiba build of Windows XP is re-installed from the Recovery partition, it does not need a Windows Installation CD). The Windows license is printed on a Product Key label which is attached to the computer base.

Please note; the Portege R100 Reimage CDs will only work on Portege R100 computers and Portege PR100 computers..
